Cami's Canine Rescue (CCR) - My Why

Gracie Lou Freebush was my first real rescued dog. I was living in Wilmington, North Carolina when a friend of mine sent me photos of the CUTEST litter of Pitbull mix puppies ever. She knew I had been wanting a dog but just couldn't quite pull the trigger. I had already rescued a cat, Leopold Dicaprio (I know), but I was in an apartment and just didn't think it would be fair to a dog to live in a place without a yard. I worked long hours and just wasn't sure it was the right choice for me. Then I met Grey.

Gracie was found under a barn

Gracie had been found under a barn with her siblings. They were 4 weeks old. Did I mention that there was a hurricane coming as well? Hurricane Dorian was about 2 days out from landfall when I fell for the oldest trick in the book "just let me bring a couple of them over to meet you!" my friend said. Well, I will have had Gracie for 4 years this September and I have never been happier about a "bad decision."

So Why Do I Want to Do More?

Like I said earlier, Gracie was my first rescue pup. Since then I have adopted another cat and dog for a total of 4 animals in my house. I've told friends for as long as I can remember that my retirement plan was to have an animal sanctuary where people can come and interact with animals, learn how to care for them, adopt them, etc. But I can't do that yet. So what could I do? As I sat with Gracie in the basement under her weighted blanket during some fireworks recently, we watched dog documentaries - it helps her and Atticus stay distracted during the loud "boom booms."Anywho, some of them focused on a rescue group from New York going to Texas or other places with high-kill shelters, and I thought - That. I can do that- and I can do that now. Cami's Canine Rescue was born - and I can't wait to get started with you all!

So what can you do? So many things! You can sign up to volunteer, foster, donate (supplies are just as needful as money) or even adopt! Even if it isn't here, with CCR (although obviously I hope it is), do something, somewhere, and I promise, you are not just helping a dog, you are helping people - because life is so much better with a furry friend.
